In 2022, we received contact from the daughter of one of our members who is mentioned in our Book of Remembrance:

“I am writing to correct an entry in your Book of Remembrance. In the section, ‘Those who served their country 1939-1945’ I was very pleased to see my father’s name along with two of his brothers. My father is NORMAN HUSTON. He served with the 9th battalion of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers and he was a Far East Prisoner of War in Japan – not his brother, Neville Huston. This information can be verified on the FEPOW Roll of Honour. I would be very grateful if the entry in your Remembrance Book could be corrected. Many thanks.”

We were keen to amend this, so we retrieved the Book of Remembrance and visited the online FEPOW Roll of Honour to check what the correct information should be. The best guess of all involved is that the entries for Norman Huston and Neville Huston were mixed up, as they had the same surname and initial. The correct entries are:

Huston, Neville – Middlesex Regt. Pte.
Huston, Norman – R.N.F Fusilier, POW (Japan)
Huston, Stanley – Royal Corps of Signals. Dvr.

A particularly lovely part of his biography is that when Norman Huston returned home, he married Margaret Mackie at the Church of the Divine Unity in 1949, became the stepfather to her daughter Margaret, and had three children with her: Susan (who contacted us), Rosemary, and Stephen.
