Visit to Whitby Flowergate Chapel 2019 with the Northern Unitarian Association
The Whitby Trip, in which we travel to meet fellow Unitarians at Whitby’s Flowergate Chapel, will be on Sunday 18th July. The plan is to travel and have lunch there, attend the service at 2pm, go for a walk and an ice cream, and head back home! We need to know numbers, so if you would like to go and haven’t yet confirmed this, please do so ASAP here: info@newcastleunitarians.org.uk. There will be no service on that day, but we will upload a service video to our YouTube and Facebook channels for anyone not able to join us.
Please be aware that everyone going needs to be prepared to make a financial contribution to the cost of transport of £15, and you’ll also need money for lunch. This year, you have the option of lift-sharing or travelling by train – we usually all lift-share. Due to the pandemic, if people choose to go by lift-share with someone not in their household or support bubble, it’s conditional on everyone in the car taking a Covid test either that morning or the evening before and confirming to everyone in the car that they have a negative test before setting off. If you opt for this, please be aware that there’s a risk that if the driver has a positive test, you may not get to go – it will depend on whether we can fit the passengers into another car. Also please be aware that it’s an enclosed space and a long journey; we’ll do our best to ventilate the cars, but there are limits to this.
If you choose to go by train, please be aware that it can be a long day as it’s around three hours to Whitby from Newcastle by train and another three hours back again, and you would be leaving about 9am and getting home about 9pm. You may also be travelling alone. If you do want to choose this option, please say so in before Wednesday 30th June, as train tickets will need to be booked early. The expectation is that the person travelling would contribute £15 towards the cost, and the church will cover the rest.
