On Saturday 18th February at 6pm in Newcastle’s Times Square, IWW (Industrial Workers of the World), North East Anarchist Group, Northern Pride, Newcastle University LGBT+ Society, Be Trans support, North East Against Racism and many others joined together to mourn the loss of Brianna Ghey, a 16 year old trans girl from Warrington who was murdered on 11th January 2023 (you can find out more here if you are not familiar with what happened to here: Brianna Ghey).

Despite the cold and rain, many people gathered to remember Brianna Ghey. We heard from speakers from many organisations, trans, non-binary, cis, straight, gay, and more. Many had worn flags and signs with the “pink and colourful attire” which the organisers encouraged people to wear as Brianna Ghey loved to wear similar clothing. We listened to songs, hugged each other, and held candles for a minute’s silence.
