Remembering Roy Hislop

Lit memorial candles in a church

Maurice Large writes:

“I do not think any of our current members will even know the name Roy Hislop, but there may be some older members of other congregations who get this Calendar who may remember him.

Roy grew up with me through the Sunday Schools and into the UYPL. We were the same age and became best friends. We helped out together with scene setting for the Durant Players under the guidance of Ron Coulson. We went on holidays together, including, memorably, a trip to Ireland where we were nearly arrested for involvement in the Great Train Robbery. He was my best man and I his.

In the early 1970s, Roy’s work took him to Surrey, where he stayed. On 27 September 2021, he was riding his bike near his home when he was hit and killed by a car which failed to stop. Rest in peace, my old friend.”
