Friday Night: Rev. Kate Brady McKenna and “Why are we here?”

At the end of a loving, uplifting, challenging and humbling week, Rev. Kate Brady-McKenna asked a desperately difficult but necessary question: “If we knew the world was ending in the next few hundred years, what would we do?” Her answer was to build a kingdom of justice and love, whether we call it the Kingdom of God or by another name. If the world is coming to an end, we must build a kingdom of love. We need to be there for people who are not used to having a church be there for them, and we have to be there in prayer. Can we become more familiar with the phrase: “Will you pray with me?” Having herself experienced the welcome that Unitarian congregations can offer same-sex couples, she called upon us to think now about whether we also welcome trans, non-binary and polyamorous people.
