Whitby Flowergate Chapel hosts four services a year, to celebrate the equinoxes. On Sunday 21 June, Unitarians from across Yorkshire, Stockton and Newcstle joined them for their summer solstice gathering, a ‘Celebration of Trees’. The invitation read:

“We will be celebrating the light and also the sacredness of trees. So, if you have a short story about a tree that means a lot to you or an image of one then please share this with everyone. We will also be having a strawberry communion so if you would like to bring along some strawberries to share, that would be very welcome too.”

We gathered together for a celebration of trees and what they mean to us, sharing our stories before we went outside to mark the work that has been done to redevelop the Chapel’s garden, then back indoors to share a Strawberry Communion and hear performances from Whitby Community Choir.
