Working on our Welcome 2022
In June 2022, Newcastle upon Tyne Unitarians held a ‘Working on our Welcome’ after-service workshop, based on the 2018 workshop of the same name held by Dr. Jane Blackall and Quaker activist Fred Langridge at York Unitarians. We did an empathy exercise, exploring how different aspects of our congregation might look and feel to people from different backgrounds and of different sexual orientations and gender identities – asexual, trans, polyamorous, and many more. It was fascinating to consider how we might appear to others, and prompted a meaningful discussion about what we could consider doing to make ourselves more welcoming to everyone.
